CHAPTER 1
Short of God’s Glory:
Israel
Ezekiel envisioned the LORD’S ( Shekinah) glory departing from the Cherubim to the Temple’s threshold; (Ezekiel 9:3; 10:4.) from the threshold; (Ezekiel 10:18.) and from the Temple and City to the Mount of Olives. (Ezekiel 11:23.) The Temple has been succeeded by the synagogue without the glory.
Paul’s Churches
"For I speak to you Gentiles, inasmuch as I am the apostle of the Gentiles, I magnify mine office:... For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee." (Romans 11:13,21.)
There has been a "falling away" by these churches (2 Thessalonians 2:3.) who have lost their gifts of the spirit (See in particular 1 Corinthians 12:1-11; Ephesians 4:11.) They have crucified "the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame" (Hebrews 6:6.) as evidenced by the divided house of Roman Catholicism and some two hundred protesting non-Roman assemblies.
"WITH the passing away of an old order there is always the coming in of a new one.
"When Judaism was about to be extinguished by God’s judgment, the light of Christianity came. God’s candlestick in the world was Jerusalem with its Temple wherein God in the first instance had his habitation. When the time came for its destruction, the Anointed One (the Messiah, the Christ) appeared.
"Then came Paul, the Apostle to the Gentiles. Slowly the light of Heaven was transferred from the ancient Temple and City. The Anointed One prepared a new candlestick, the local Gentile Church institution." (DAK)
